Welcome to “Terror in Ravenswood,” a thrilling 5e compatible adventure crafted for a group of four to five characters starting at 1st level. As the adventurers progress, they’ll grow to 3rd level, facing a variety of challenges that test their wits, strength, and courage. Designed by Eric Bleney, this module offers a rich, immersive experience, perfect for both novice and seasoned Dungeon Masters.

Adventure Background

The Mines of Ravenswood were once a source of prosperity for the village, but a catastrophe forced them to abandon the mines. Recently, strange occurrences have been reported, prompting the village elder to seek out brave adventurers to uncover and eliminate the source of these disturbances.

Adventure Hook

Players are recruited by the village elder to investigate the abandoned mines. They are enticed by rumors of a powerful artifact hidden within, but they must first navigate dangerous creatures and treacherous traps. The goal is to defeat the goblin warlord, Grommok, and retrieve the artifact, but players will soon discover that others covet this powerful relic for their purposes.

Part 1: The Village of Ravenswood

The adventure begins with the players arriving in the quaint village of Ravenswood. They are greeted by Othar, the village elder, who explains the dire situation and pleads for their help. Here, players can gather information from various NPCs like Drogathar the innkeeper and Lars Stonefist, a mysterious hunter with his agenda.

Part 2: The Abandoned Mine

The abandoned mine is fraught with peril, from goblin guards at the entrance to various traps and creatures lurking within. Players must use their skills and wits to navigate through areas such as the Minecart Rails Station, the Guardroom, and multiple Ore Storage Rooms. Key encounters include battling goblins, giant spiders, and solving a challenging rune puzzle to gain access to Grommok’s lair.

Part 3: Confronting Grommok

In the climactic battle, players face Grommok the Mighty and his minions. Grommok, corrupted by the power of the Ring of the Crimson Moon, provides a formidable challenge. Victory rewards players with significant treasure, including the cursed Ring of the Crimson Moon, which grants great power but at a high cost.

Side Quests

The adventure offers additional side quests, including rescuing the blacksmith’s kidnapped daughters and assisting a retired miner, Roland, in exchange for valuable information and resources. These side quests add depth and variety, providing opportunities for players to earn extra experience and rewards.

Conclusion

After defeating Grommok and retrieving the artifact, players return to a grateful Ravenswood. However, their victory is bittersweet as they must decide the fate of the Ring of the Crimson Moon. This sets the stage for future adventures and the continuation of their heroic journey.
